Since the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, the concept of sustainable development has been used in a variety of ways. But what exactly is sustainable development? What parameters or indicators can we use to monitor our progress towards greater sustainability? In this course, you will learn about the importance of understanding the original system A before considering a transition to system B. To do this, we will use an area where the human footprint on natural systems is unavoidable and has been measured for many years: the production of our food. Our medium will be the serious game www.segae.org. You will be in charge of a farm with precise 10-year sustainable development objectives. We will look at the different parameters that can be used to give practical expression to sustainable development in a production system. The example of our food is used, but the systemic and multidisciplinary approach that we will be working on together can be adapted to any other system. It's also an opportunity for you to find out more about agro-ecology and the research issues that concern us on a daily basis. Whatever your level of knowledge of agronomy, we'll be delighted to talk to you about a subject that's so important to us: how to sustainably feed a region's population while preserving our planet!
